The main function of the recorder is to graphically reproduce the output of the detector as accurately as possible to obtain a permanent record of the results (chromatogram).
Meerik on Heido Otsa loodud uudissõna, mis oli 1972. a Emakeele Seltsi keeletoimkonna korraldatud sõnavõistluse üks võidusõnu. Nimisõna meerik nagu ka lisaks pakutud tegusõna meerima on tuletised murdesõnast meere : meerde ’viir, triip, jutt’.
