an acute infectious fever due to infection of the throat with a haemolytic streptococcus; characterized by sore throat, headache, raised temperature and a punctate erythema of the skin, which subsequently peels, an acute communicable disease characterized by fever, strawberry-coloured tongue, and a typical rash starting on the neck and chest and spreading to the abdomen and limbs, caused by all group A haemolytic Streptococcus bacteria, erütrogeenset toksiini moodustava beetahemolüütilise A‑grupi streptokoki (Streptococcus pyogenes) tekitatud eriti nakkav palavikuga kulgev kurgumandlipõletikuga üldinfektsioon, millega seostub mannaterataoline peenetähniline punane lööve ning ravimatuse korral tekivad mitmed lisanduvad haigused; infektsioon levib kontakti teel ja ka A-grupi streptokokiga saastunud piima kaudu
